Rotary World Polio Day 24 October 2025

Crickhowell residents may have recently noticed the purple lighting at the front of the Bear Hotel.

This has been kindly arranged by Samantha and Stephen Hindmarsh in cooperation with Crickhowell Rotary Club to highlight World Polio Day on 24 October.

World Polio Day is a time for Rotarians, public health advocates and all interested parties to recognise the progress made in ending polio and the continuing plans needed to finally eradicate polio worldwide.

At present there are just four cases in Afghanistan, 29 in Pakistan and a number spread over the African continent.

These figures represent a huge improvement over the thousands of new cases that were previously reported annually. Each year Crickhowell Rotary Club donates £500 to the End Polio Campaign and this is made up to £1,000 by a matching donation from the Bill Gates Foundation.

As ever, we are grateful our contribution comes from monies donated by the generous people of Crickhowell.
