The social side of Rotary in 2025

At the heart of Rotary lies friendship. Yes, we’re known for the service we give to our communities—but it’s the friendships and connections we make along the way that truly set Rotary apart.

Across the UK, the social side of Rotary is what brings people together—not just to do good, but to enjoy doing good together. It’s the laughter shared at meetings, the camaraderie at fundraising events, and the sense of belonging that comes when people from all walks of life unite around a common purpose.

Many join Rotary because they want to make a difference. But they stay because of the friendships.

These friendships give us encouragement, support, and a genuine sense of community. They build the trust and understanding we need to take on bigger challenges, and they bring joy when we celebrate our successes side by side.

Friendship in Rotary isn’t just an added extra—it’s the foundation. It’s the glue that holds our clubs together, and the spark that keeps us moving forward. In Rotary, service and fellowship walk hand in hand, ensuring that the impact we make in our communities is matched by the friendships we make along the way.

This past year has been a perfect example. We’ve toured the BBC studios in Cardiff during election night preparations, staggered around Westons Cider, rubbed shoulders at Chepstow Races on Grand National Day, and even rocked out at Rockfield Studios.

We’ve enjoyed two lively curry nights at our local Indian restaurant—great evenings that also supported a local business. Our summer race night was unforgettable: not just any race night, but an interactive one where we raced hobby horses to victory!

Our annual calendar is always filled with highlights. At Christmas, we share “Christmas Spirit”—an afternoon with Christmas jumpers aplenty, the wine flows freely, laughter, and a festive singalong.

As spring returns, our much loved Progressive Supper brings everyone together for a unique evening where each course is enjoyed at a different home, ending with a grand get together over cheese and biscuits.

Friendship is what makes Rotary more than just a service organisation—it makes it a family.
